The first election of Miss France (instead of “the most beautiful in France”) took place in 1929. The official Miss France association was founded in 1954. Recently there has been a lot of press coverage of the Miss France competition with Alain Delon, and the Miss National competition with Genevieve de Fontenay .
Genevieve de Fontenay, “Lady with the Hat,” has been involved with Miss France for decades. Following several scandals that she did not support, Lady with the Hat left Miss France and on October 21, 2010 officially established a parallel company whose name is Miss National.
Meanwhile, Sylvie Tellier of Miss France appointed Alain Delon to chair the jury of this year’s competition, saying “Alain Delon is French class and elegance. Mr. Delon responded,“I agreed to chair the jury Miss France, for the second time because it is a role that enchants me. Lover of women and of feminine beauty as I am, you can not dream of a more brilliant and I look forward.” Mr. Delon previously served on the Miss France jury in 2001.
During a regional competition Fontenay said some unkind, unlady like remarks about Mr. Delon.
At a Miss France press conference held on November 10, 2010, Mr. Delon stated, “I have tremendous respect for Genevieve de Fontenay. If she had called me before Endemol (Miss France) and offered to chair the contest, I accepted. But I do not see why it did so because she finds me corny … ”
A little later, Alain Delon added: “Again, I have great respect for Genevieve de Fontenay. She is a great lady. I wish for her a more dignified end to it. At the same time is fair game …”
Miss France, will take place as scheduled on December 4 at the Zenith of Caen (Calvados), and will be broadcast live on TF1.
